Why Photograph Here
Central Park has a different setting for nearly every kind of session. Family portraits work well along the Mall and its tree-lined benches, couples and proposals suit the lake and Bow Bridge, and the Bethesda Terrace arcade gives rich color and shade when the sun is harsh.
I plan each session around the time of day and the season. Early morning and the last hour before sunset are quietest and softest, and autumn colors usually peak in late October and early November. I'll suggest two or three spots that fit your group, so you spend the time photographing instead of walking.
Where We'd Shoot
- Bethesda Terrace and Arcade
Tiled ceilings, carved stone and warm shade. Good for family groups and for bright midday light. - Bow Bridge and the lake
Classic for engagements and proposals, with water reflections and fall foliage. - The Mall
A long path under old elms, with benches and lamp posts. Easy for kids to run and play. - Loeb Boathouse and the shoreline
Relaxed, open views across the water. Works well for siblings and couples. - Quieter corners
Meadows and smaller paths when you'd like fewer people in the frame.
Planning Tips
- Weekday mornings are calmest, and weekends are busiest from late morning.
- Golden hour starts about an hour before sunset and moves fast, so arrive a few minutes early.
- Wear colors that sit well with greenery or stone, and bring comfortable shoes for walking between spots.

We had such a great experience with Ozum for our maternity shoot! She showed up rain or shine, made us feel really comfortable in front of the camera, and knew all the best spots in Central Park. Her communication was excellent throughout the whole process, and everything felt easy and stress-free. We’re so happy with our photos and would highly recommend her!

Ozum was wonderful. We arrived about 10 minutes late, but she waited for us with a kind smile and was very flexible. She guided us through Central Park, from the Shakespeare statue to Bethesda Terrace and Bow Bridge, and she made us feel relaxed from the first minute. She took many more photos than we expected, and every picture is beautiful and natural. You can see our real laughter in each one. This shoot was for my wife's 30th birthday and our first time together after six months apart, and Ozum captured that feeling perfectly. Thank you so much, Ozum!

We worked with Ozum for a hometown photo shoot in Central Park and had such a great experience! She was so kind and patient with our dogs, and the whole session easy and fun. The photos turned out beautifully — she did an amazing job capturing the fall foliage. It’s never easy to photograph dogs, but she truly nailed it! We’re absolutely thrilled with how everything came out and would highly recommend her.

Ozum was wonderful! We absolutely loved working with her! She captured our family so beautifully and we will cherish every single photo she took for years to come! She was incredibly sweet and kind to our children as well as my husband and I. Truly can’t praise her enough! Highly recommend working with her! You will not be disappointed

Before You Book
Do I need a permit for a Central Park photo session?
Small portrait sessions are often fine, but rules depend on group size, equipment and location within the park. I'll check your chosen spot and tell you before we book anything.
What is the best time of year for photos in Central Park?
Spring blossoms and fall color are the most popular, and both book up early. Summer evenings and winter snow can be just as beautiful, so tell me your dates and I'll suggest what works.
Can you photograph a proposal in Central Park?
Yes. We plan a location, a signal and a cover story, and I photograph from a distance so the moment stays a surprise. Send your date through the booking form.
How long should a Central Park session be?
One hour covers two spots comfortably. Two hours suits larger families or a mix of portraits and candid moments.
